How long does it take to fill the tank with the three tubes open?
An oil tank at the refinery Chemco has two inlet pipes and a spout. An inlet pipe can fill the tank in 6 hours and the other inlet pipe can fill the tank in 12 hours. The outlet pipe can empty the tank within 24 hours. How long does it take to fill the tank with the three tubes open?
1 / 6 + 1 / 12 - 1 / 24 = 1 / T 1 / T = (4 + 2-1) / 24 = 5.24 T = 24 / 5 = 4.8 hours
