Do I have to fill out a custom form to ship a package from the US to a APO address in Germany?
I'm shipping my girlfriend an anniversary gift. She's at an APO AE address in Germany. Do I still need to fill out a customs form? And if I do, can I write "gift" for contents if I don't know want her to know what it is?
You are required to fill out Customs Form 2976-A for all mail with a declared value that is to be sent to an APO or FPO address, regardless of whether it is a gift or not. If the item is a gift, the fact that it is a gift must be stated on the customs form; however, to my knowledge, it is not acceptable to simply state that the item is a gift without describing what the item actually is on the customs form, due to regulations that prohibit certain items from being mailed via APO/FPO.
