Highlights Kit
Can i dye my hair with a home kit, after its had bleached highlights?
I have natrually mousy brown hair and have had bleeched highlights 3 or 4 (blonde) times at the hairdressers. Now my hair is quite dry, the roots grow through quite fast, and its really expensive so i want to dye it one colour with a home kit. (light/bleech blonde) But i'm worried it will go a dodgy colour. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.x
You will need to be extremely careful with your hair. My advice would be to ask at your local hairdressing salon. It sounds like you've had your highlights done too many times. Once your hair has been bleached, only the roots should be touched up.
It sounds to me as though you need to seriously take care of your hair BEFORE you get it bleached. If you're short on cash, wait until you're not doing anything for a day or two, then simply moisten your hair, smother it in conditioner, then wrap your hair up in cling film (plastic wrap, if you're American) until it looks like you're wearing a shower cap. Do what you would normally do around the house for as long as you can, then rinse. 5-7 days later, I would do the same thing again. If you're out of conditioner, use regular cooking oil - olive, sunflower etc. Beware, the oil can get messy, so perhaps do one layer of cling film, then a layer of toilet paper around your face and neck, then one more layer of cling film. To wash out the oil, first rinse, then condition, then shampoo, then condition - for some reason oil will not wash out with shampoo.
If you have the cash, go to your local salon and pay for an intense hair-restore treatment to condition from the roots to the ends, one that well help defend against hair breakage.
If you have mousey brown hair, your colour should, with a home bleach kit and 40%vol. peroxide, go to a colour that may be a little gingerey at first. Wait AT LEAST one month before doing an all-over bleach again. Two times at most should do the trick. Also, make sure you use LOTS of conditioner (including the home-made treatment I suggested at least once a week), treatments, and only blow dry and straighten your hair on a LOW heat, and always use protection spray.
